Exercise and How to Manage Stress
Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. A stressed person is prone to psychological breakdown. Causes of stress are very numerous. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Causes of stress in the workplace include being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, working under dangerous conditions among other causes. The other category of stress is the life stress. Under life stress, there is the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job and getting married.
Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. It is possible to stress oneself by worrying about some things. The fear of certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can make a person worry a lot hence resulting to stress. Stress is not something that is healthy. This is why people are advised to try as much as possible to be stress free. There are some negative health effects that are associated with stress. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. The worst can happen with some of these health implications of stress. However, there are ways that can help a stressed person to do away with the stress.
Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. It is important that a stressed person should avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Nicotine and caffeine are examples of stimulants. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Alcohol is a depressant when taken in large quantities, however, it is not a helpful way of dealing with stress. Getting enough sleep is one of the methods of managing stress. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. Another tip of managing stress is the utilization of the relaxation techniques. Tests done to majority of these techniques confirm their efficiency.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. Even the slow exercises can still assist one to achieve these effects. Walking in fresh air can also be useful. A more permanent situation is the incorporation of physical activities in your daily routine.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of these mechanisms is through pumping of endorphins into one’s body. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. The mood of a person can be improved following an exercise session. Improving the moods of a person is as a result of increased confidence, and lowering symptoms of depression.
